. . . began practicing massage in Saratoga, NY in 1974, working with the dance faculty of Skidmore College and members of the New York City Ballet. He moved to Greensboro, NC in 1976, and in 1987 expanded his private massage practice into a group practice, The Human Touch.
Joel is an honors graduate of Hendrix College and a member of the first graduating class of the Carolina School of Massage. He has received the state's national meritorious award from the American Massage Therapy Association, and has been a pioneer in Massage Therapy in North Carolina. For over thirty years, Joel has worked with hundreds of athletes, dancers, and performing artists from around the world. His world travels have afforded him the opportunity to expand his knowledge of Bodywork from the traditions of Japan, Thailand, Australia, and Eastern and Western Europe.
Joel provided massage at the Summer Olympics in Sydney, Australia; Goodwill Games in Brisbane, Australia; and World Track and Field Championships in Japan, Canada, Spain, France, and Hungary. In 2004, he was a featured speaker to the Medical and Coaching Staff of the Slovenian Olympic Committee in Ljubljana, Slovenia. Joel has also travelled to Ulyanovsk, Russia, as a member of an American-Russian cultural exchange.
Joel teaches workshops for massage professionals throughout the United States. He has created a unique approach to teaching massage that is both exciting and effective.
